What began as a family dream to share this extraordinary corner of Aotearoa has grown into one of the Gisborne region’s most cherished accommodation experiences.
Our Story
Waimanu Lodge was founded by the Lynch family, who fell in love with the untouched beauty of the East Coast after years of travelling New Zealand. Drawn by the dramatic coastline, lush native bush, and the warmth of the local community, they set about creating a retreat that would offer visitors a genuine connection with this special place.
Over the years, the lodge has been thoughtfully developed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Every detail — from the locally sourced timber in the guest rooms to the native gardens that attract tui, kereru, and fantails — reflects our deep respect for the environment and the culture of the East Coast.

Our Values
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We use solar energy to power much of the lodge, collect and filter our own rainwater, and work closely with local conservation groups to protect the native wildlife that calls this valley home. We believe in treading lightly on the land and leaving it better than we found it.
